Before making a brawling attack or a melee attack, declare you will exhaust this Gift. The damage from your attack becomes Weak. If you score a Hurt result against your target, the target also becomes Asleep. If you score an Afraid result against your target, your target also becomes Unconscious.

Action: “melee attack: knockout strike with truncheon”
As “knockout strike”, above, only if your melee weapon has the Truncheon descriptor, you may claim a bonus d8 with your attack.
